Anita Marie Holthaus, 97 passed away peacefully in her home Thursday, February 21, 2019
Anita was born November 30, 1921 to Marie and Herman Holthaus in Cincinnati, OH, one of nine children. After her father’s sudden passing, she spent four impressionable years living downtown with her family while her mother ran the restaurant business. She had a hard life, giving up her teenage years to help her mother keep the family together. After a few years in Northside, they settled in Norwood, where she lived with her mother and cared for her until she passed away. She was employed and retired from Foy Paint Company, where she progressed from office typist to the accounting department to Assistant Office Manager. During this time, Anita continued her education, taking night classes and enjoying working with numbers.
She was the only one in her family that enjoyed gardening and every summer grew vegetables in her back yard. Traveling was something she also enjoyed, including trips to Florida, New York and Japan.
Anita was an active member of St. Elizabeth Church and proudly sang in the choir. Later, she joined the choir at Holy Trinity Church. She was also on a Bowling League, attended the Senior Center where she sometimes announced the bingo numbers, and at home often played cards with friends, cousins and family members.
Anita was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews, for whom she played an influential role in both their early lives and their lives as adults. She loved them as if they were her own children and delighted in seeing them grow up and have their own families.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Herman (Millie), Charles (Mary), Raymond (Fusako), Edward (Aggie), William (Ruth) Holthaus and sisters Dolores Holthaus and Loretta Frankenhoff (Edwin). She is survived by her sister MaryAnn Holthaus, nieces MaryAnn Storm (James), Kathleen Greene (David), and nephews Herman (Noreen) and William Holthaus, Edward, Robert (Debbie), Jerome (Mary), Martin (Lori), and Joseph (Brenda) Frankenhoff as well as many great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Naegele, Kleb & Ihlendorf Funeral Home 3900 Montgomery Rd, Norwood on Tuesday, from 5-8PM. Mass of Christian Burial, Holy Trinity Church, Montgomery Rd. & Drex Ave, Norwood on Wednesday, February 27 at 10AM.
