James "Jim," age 77, died Saturday surrounded by his loving family. Jim's first love was his family. He married the love of his life, Geri (nee Kerr), in 1961 and they raised 3 children, Lisa (Mike) Turner, Christopher and Suzanne DuMont, followed by 3 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 5 brothers and 1 sister. He was an active father and grandfather and loved spending time with all of them. If a grandchild needed a car repair, Jim would fix it.
After completing his military duty, he built a long career at General Electric where, because of his engineering and mechanical skills, he was promoted through many departments until he became head of GE aircraft engine maintenance.
Jim loved cars and rebuilt many over the years, including a model T Ford, several Corvettes, and a Dodge Barracuda. He even put a Chrysler Hemi engine in a 1953 Studebaker truck and painted it yellow with red racing stripes. He beautifully restored antique gas pumps and oil cans. Later, he took up rebuilding 1950's British motorcycles.
Musically, Jim loved rhythm and blues, and 1950's doo wop. He enjoyed fishing with friends, lunch with a beer at Quatman Café and cookouts with his extended family.
Highly respected at work, loved and admired by those who knew him, he lived a full and complete life.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 16 at 5-10 PM at the Norwood Community Center, 1810 Courtland Ave, Norwood. Family asks that everyone drives their vintage cars or bikes in memory of Jim.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shiners Hospital, 3229 Burnet Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio 45229.
